Parent/Guardian Involvement

In specific instances of nonacademic misconduct, parent/guardian involvement may be appropriate. The University has established a policy for the parameters for parent/guardian involvement that are consistent with provisions in the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA).

Generally, a parent/guardian will be involved to assist in supporting students as a result of health or safety concerns, particularly related to drugs or alcohol, or when a student under 21 years old is placed on disciplinary probation for an alcohol or drug incident.

If a student believes that parent involvement would pose a danger to the student or others, they may appeal to an Director of the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards by following the instructions in their finding letter following their disciplinary conference.
